This blog gives me an opportunity to share a bit more about me, Nora G. Ho, children’s book author. The setting of my debut book, A Place Called Home, takes place in the coastal redwoods.
As a child, we lived near the redwoods and spent many weekends and celebrations with family and friends on hikes, friendly competitive baseball games and barbecues!
With seven other siblings, it was such great fun exploring. The ruins of cattle baron Henry Miller’s summer home still exists today. You can stand quietly in the middle of a room and imagine what it might have been like with thousands of cattle roaming the hills.
Back in those days, we enjoyed observing animals of the towering redwoods. The bluejays were the loudest and if we were still, we could hear the tapping and knocking of pileated woodpeckers as they asserted their territorial rights to drive away intruders.
There is the quiet, bright, yellow colored and very slimy banana slug, who moves 6.5 inches per minute. This makes it one of the slowest creatures on earth! To find out more about the inhabitants of the redwoods, add a copy of A Place Called Home to your home library!
